Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) has a long-standing history in Southeast Asia as a traditional botanical used to combat fatigue, improve work productivity, and manage ailments [15]. Today, modern phytochemical analysis has identified over 40 distinct alkaloid compounds within the leaf.
Our R&D focuses on the most prominent and well-studied compounds, Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. These compounds are unique because they interact with opioid receptors in the brain (specifically activating µ-opioid receptors) but act as atypical opioids. Unlike typical options like morphine or oxycodone, Mitragynine binds more stably, providing longer-lasting effects with lower toxicity [10]. Furthermore, scientists have observed that Mitragynine binds to adrenergic, serotonin, and dopamine receptors, which contributes to its diverse physiological effects [9, 13, 14].
